In 2018, Hermann Services began our partnership with Wreaths Across America, a non-profit dedicated to coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at more than 2,500 locations across the U.S., at sea, and abroad. They believe that there’s no better time to express appreciation for this nation’s veterans than during the holiday season, so Hermann Services participated by donating our time and trucks to lay wreaths on the graves at Arlington National Cemetery. In 2019, we were even part of WAA’s Honor Fleet as they drove wreaths down to Arlington. Two of our trailers are wrapped with this organization’s information and can be found making rounds in the east and southwest regions. This year’s National Wreaths Across America Day is December 17.
Clete Cheshire, a Hermann driver who has participated in Wreaths Across America for a few years, said that for him, this cause is personal. “I served in the Army, so it was almost like a mission to honor the vets that passed; then there are the volunteers that you meet at each cemetery you deliver wreaths to, great people.”
Every year, our biggest event is undoubtedly Toys for Tots. A proud partner since 2004, Hermann Services actively encourages our
employees, customers, and community to share in donating toys – or funding the purchase of books and toys – that will be distributed to children in need during the holiday season. Toys for Tots celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, and has proudly distributed 627 million toys to date, which went to 281 million children. In 2021, Hermann collected over 4,000 toys, and we will be taking donations again this year! We welcome you to stop by your closest Hermann warehouse, office, or terminal if you would like to join us, or donate through our Amazon wish list.
Mike Horvath, Driver Planner for Hermann Transportation, routinely helps organize the delivery of empty Toys for Tots donation boxes to customers and pick them up once full. When asked what he enjoys about this event, he said, “It’s for a really great cause. The memories I have as a kid of Christmas mornings are how special they were and how lucky I was. Meanwhile, there are so many children out there that don’t or never had that experience. So, being able to come together with amazing people for this awesome cause and just brings a great feeling, knowing we will be able to make that positive impact and create lasting memories for kids who are less fortunate.”
