From Truck Driver to Driver Manager: Andre Simms

“Moving from the truck to the office has been refreshing and creates a new challenge and a new perspective of the business,” said Andre. His enthusiasm for the role is evident as he eagerly undergoes training to ensure he’s well-prepared for whatever transportation challenges come his way.

In this new role, Andre has a unique understanding of what the job requires. “Andre was the perfect fit to transition from a driver to driver manager. His knowledge of the customers and all-around familiarity of the operation made the decision that much easier,” said Anthony Cennamo, Andre’s manager and the Senior Asset and Fleet Maintenance Manager, who himself transitioned from driver to Driver Manager on a dedicated account many years ago, making him the perfect person to help Andre adjust to his new role. Driver Mentor Byata Wilder also agreed that Andre was perfect for the job, and that he picked everything up quickly. “It takes being a driver to be a good driver manager. He knows the roads, the routes, and he’s been there so he knows how to effectively route you,” Byata remarked.

Outside of work, Andre enjoys attending concerts, visiting art museums, watching sports, and learning about science, but he also enjoys, “spending time outdoors enjoying the peace and quiet.” In his five years with Hermann Transportation, his favorite memory has been, “interacting with everyone at the Holiday party and seeing others have fun.” Like many other employees across the organization, Andre’s favorite memories revolve around spending meaningful time with others in the company who he does not get to interact with often.
