Maintaining Fleet Safety

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009
By Bryan Hermann,
Director of Maintenance

Every time a driver takes to the road, it is the responsibility of Hermann Fleet Services to ensure safe performance of the vehicle.

To that end, we have instituted several maintenance safety policies and procedures including:
  • 90 day preventive maintenance schedule for every vehicle.
  • Lockout tags placed on steering wheels by mechanics for out of service vehicles to ensure no accidents occur and that the vehicle is not returned to use until service is complete.
  • Pre-and-post-trip driver inspections.
  • Monthly safety breaks for mechanics to review shop procedures for their own health and well-being.

We also went completely paperless in the shop, which not only helps the environment, but also ensures stability and structure to remove the chance of maintenance errors from the safety equation. In all, we have seen a great reduction in the number of service calls for our entire leasing and transportation truck fleet this year thanks to the maintenance crew.
